Biography

The work you see is the product of a spark of fresh enthusiasm in art after more than 20yrs of it laying dormant in my head!  I have always had an intense interest in the natural world and anything remotely creative, but particularly art.

My childhood was influenced by cycling in the countryside around my home and family holidays to the North Norfolk coast and Yorkshire Dales.  Childhood was also heavily influenced by family.  Grandad painted in oils, but left it until retirement to start.  A dark Horse!  My Dad has been an artist for over 40yrs and is still painting almost full time at 80!  His work is here. https://www.kenburton.co.uk/

With no formal training in art I left school at 16 and joined the British Army as a Grenadier Guardsman, something which gave me a sound start in life and that I'm incredibly proud of.  I went on to serve in the Norfolk Constabulary as a Police Officer for nearly two decades, but rarely picked up a pencil or brush apart from the odd cartoon for my children.

Fast forward to 2018, I was sat on the telephone doodling a little wren on the back of an envelope & thought to myself 'you should do more'.

So I did.

After plucking up the courage to show others my first attempt at drawing my own dog Benny in coloured pencil I was chuffed!  I didn't expect to pull it off and was quite surprised at myself, this was nothing as people I'd known for over 20yrs didn't even know I liked art, let alone create any.

Finally the urge to create art was alive again!  Since this time my confidence and ability has grown and seen me expand into People portraits as well as landscapes.
